US Airways Plane Goes Down in the Hudson River Today
If you’ve paid any attention to the news today, you may have learned that a United Airways Plane went down this afternoon around 3:30 pm after leaving LaGuardia Airport in New York. The plane was only in the air for less than a minute before the pilot brought the plane down into the Hudson River.
There were 155 people aboard the plane and all reports so far have stated that the passengers have all survived. The plane was in the water up to the windows as Coast Guard vessels and ferry boats arrived to rescue the passengers.
The weather today in New York is significant in that it was near 20 degrees out today and the situation could have been made much worse by frigid water temperatures.
The pilot has stated that there was a “double bird strike” and that both engines were disabled by a bird and he needed to land immediately.
After recently traveling back and forth from Florida, I can’t imagine the same thing happening while I was on the plane. I’m not so sure that I would have remained cool, calm and collected.
I’m not an overtly religious person, but I can only imagine that something somewhere was protecting that plane today as it crashed into the Hudson.
