Ty, Inc. Makes Malia and Sasha Dolls Without Permission
The Ty, Inc. Company, famous for creating the Beanie Baby craze that captured the hearts of many, is trying a new niche of dolls. Pictured here are the two new dolls that they have created:
Welcome Marvelous Malia and Sweet Sasha, the two newest additions to the Ty, Inc. line.
Are they supposed to be dolls of the White House children? Tania Lundren, spokesperson for Ty, Inc. says no. Really. No, they just liked the names Sasha and Malia because they are pretty. Never mind that the dolls are clearly biracial, Ty, Inc. is so far sticking to their story that these two dolls are not replicas of the President’s two girls. It was just a coincidence.
Right, because the names Malia and Sasha are the two most popular names today? Hardly, both names do not rank in the top 200 girls names.
I think Ty, Inc. better stop and think twice before they try and say this was all just one happy coincidence. Like we believe it. Come on people, the dog didn’t eat your homework and these dolls couldn’t be more like the President’s children unless they were named Sasha and Malia Obama dolls.

I’ve searched all day on the internet. TY, Inc. is really claiming that they named two new biracial dolls Malia and Sasha and it is just a coincidence.
I will stop being a Beanie Baby collector. I purchase EVERYONE the moment they are released and have done so the last 15 years.
I think it is wrong for Ty, Inc. to use the President’s daughter’s names, but what really did it for me is when they denied the dolls’ names were for those girls.
This is an insult to me as a loyal customer and collector. I already threw all of my Beanie Babies in the trash can.
Shame on you Ty!
Good for you. Ty should be ashamed of themselves.
I have one idiot commenting on this post at reddit. He is claiming that Sasha and Malia are not biracial. Hmmm..
The company should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting these children…The old mighty dollar is at it again! That is my response as a American, now as a minority!
Where is the Beenie Baby African American collection and what names have they already used..or is there one? Be careful Ty inc. you are approaching a very slippery slope, your marketing company can not afford to test the waters of this countries slumping economy, nor can your share holders. Come clean before it is too late, your reputation is at stake!
i think all of u are getting out of hand!! if ur a TRUE BEANIE BABIES collector then these shouldn’t bother u- i don’t understand why u people have to get in the middle of this crap. if u collect them buy them if u don’t then don’t buy them- WHO REALLY CARES!!!!! SO SHAME ON YOU!! or is this the only site u can bitch on??
I don’t know what’s worse the fact that Ty would do such a despicable thing as naming their dolls after the Obama girls without getting the parents permission or the fact that they think their customers are so dumb that they’ll believe it’s a coincidence.
I was going to order the dolls for my nieces, because they were Malia and Sasha Obama dolls and the girls are good role models. Thank goodness, I learned of this atrocity before I submitted my article.
Too bad Ty ruin their reputation with this act and their unbelievable excuse of the dolls have nothing to do with Sasha and Malia Obama.
Funny that if Ty, Inc. thinks their buyers are stupid, some commenters are proving them right.
Ty, Inc. should be ashamed - I was watching a report about this scandle on TV and the guy they were interviewing said, “What is the president going to do, sue Ty, Inc.?”
I’m encouraging the American people to not buy the dolls or any other product Ty, Inc. is trying to sell right now. Ty, Inc. needs to come clean, remove the dolls, and issue a public apology to the 1st family.
I cannot see what the tempest in the teapot is about. Every day tee-shirts are made with inspiration of the moment.
The dolls would not tarnish the reputation of the Obama girls.
