I Have 500 or More Paperback Books
I have 500 or more paperback books, all are 2002 or newer, in a non-smoking household. I am getting yelled at to get the nursery ready and the 500 books have to go. They are mostly contemporary fiction, mystery and a few smatterings of romance. Is anyone interested in some of these books? I was selling them online and do not have the time to do it anymore. I have a handy mail scale and I can give you the books for the price of postage. I will put up a partial list of titles when I can, but is anyone interested in some free books for the cost of postage? (I will even leave the cost of the postage on the box so that you can see you got what you paid for).
Or, does anyone have any idea where I can donate these books? The local second hand bookseller got about 1,000 from me already and is just a bit overwhelmed.

Let me look. I think I have some sci-fi that I picked up at an auction. Not sure if they went already, but I’ll double check. No need for extra $$ for my trouble. I am seriously just giving these away for postage only - or for free postage if someone really needs a few books to keep them warm this winter….
Donate to an elderly care center or children’s hospital (for the parents).
Or, to continue to support your reading habit, do what I did and approach a local independent coffee shop about starting a book exchange. You donate them your books and people can bring one and take one. Steady stream of books for you, steady customer draw for them.
PaperbackSwap.com does just what you’re looking for. You might not unload all 500 books (books common to the system are unlikely to get requested quickly), but you’ll probably get rid of many of them by mailing them to people who want to read them. You’ll also get credits for swapping, which you can redeem later for more used books.
I’d be happy if you sent any to me. I’m into anything mostly- though fantasy and sci-fi are my favorites, any science, general non-fiction, or really any book besides romance is good.
Although like Jeremy said, PaperbackSwap.com is always a good way to get rid of them, though it’s harder to mass send unless the person requesting is wanting *all* of a certain kind of book.
Any hardcovers? A list would be great, but I’ll take a few random books either way.
Let me know: rebekswr@yahoo.com
Also (I totally forgot), if you live near a Half Priced Books store, you can always go in and sell them there. (I’m almost sure that you can just donate them too if you want.)
I highly recommend BookMooch.com for getting rid of books. I greatly reduced my collection of books, and now I have lots of credits for any time I’d like to get a book.
Hey, I’d love it if you had any philosophy books. A book list would be great!
Thanks for all of the help…I only have 7 Hardcover Harry Potter Books and they are mine, all mine!!! I might have a few paperbacks in the mix. I will go home and look, but I know I have very few if any science fiction. Definitely no robotics or AI, I was selling them online and they are mostly mainstream fiction/mystery/thriller/chicklit.
I’ll check once I get to leave the office.
I would love to take some of those thrillers and mysteries off of you, but postage to the UK might be cost prohibitive. I also don’t really have room with between 100 and 200 books waiting to be read and somewhere around 7 or 800 CDs on the shelves as well.
Our library gladly accepts donation. (They have a book sale quarterly for their fundraisingl)
I will pay for shipping for as many as you want to box up and send out.
Let me know how many boxes/books and the cost of postage (to 78654) as well as your paypal address.
