A Little Visitor on Our Back Deck
This little visitor came to our deck last summer. Obviously, we sprinkled bird seed everywhere in the hopes that we would catch one of the cute little birds on camera. Shamefully, I don’t know what kind of bird this is. My guess is some sort of sparrow, but I am not quite sure. I love to sit on the back deck in the summer and watch wildlife. Although I don’t live in an extremely rural place, there is a section of woods that I live close enough to that I get the occasional bear or deer in my yard. Sometimes the only way we know we’ve had a visitor is the bent over hook that was holding the bird feeder that is now resting on the ground.
One night I heard this loud slamming outside and went to my porch to investigate. Chicken that I am, I shined a flashlight in the direction but didn’t leave the porch. A rather large brown bear was trying to knock over my big trash can and finally succeeded. Rather than try to scare it off, I went back inside with the knowledge that I won’t leave my trash out again overnight.
