Traveling through the backroads in Massachusetts, I always bring my camera with me because you never know what you’ll find. I took these two pictures last fall, while traveling along route 116 in Cummington, Massachusetts.
Here is the side of a barn in Cummington where the owners strategically placed old wrought iron gates all along the barn walls. This is the same business where I found the giant tin man who has a lit heart and stands guard at the front of the stove pipe store.
Here’s a second picture, an artistic creation made entirely from used bicycles:

I’m not sure if I like this piece of art, but as my four year old niece and I discussed, anything can be considered art it just depends on how you look at it.
On a quiet road in the middle of nowhere, some of the most interesting things can be found. The artist created both the barn art and the bicycle structure just for the sake of their own enjoyment and maybe to capture the interest of a passing motorist or two.

Recently I was asked to do an interview for Lola over at Lola’s Diner on my experience being a married lesbian in Massachusetts. Lola’s been working hard on this 10 lives, 10 conversations project and the interview can be viewed here:

The Grand Canyon is 277 river miles long, in some places it is 18 miles wide, and close to a mile deep.
Formed by the turbulent currents of the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon is one of nature’s most awesome creations.
I’ve seen the Grand Canyon, but only from a plane as I headed out west several times. I’ve always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, to take a tour down to the base.
I’ve been told that the donkey ride down to the base is worth it, but to prepare. With donkeys come donkey poop and the smell can be quite interesting.
I’d love to take a few weeks and drive from New England to Arizona, arriving at the Grand Canyon to explore its vast trails and parks.
The desert landscape is nothing like home and I love new adventures.
If you’ve been to the Grand Canyon,
or live near the area, I’d love any hints or tips on travel options and things to see while there. I’m hoping to travel west again in the next year or two and I want the Grand Canyon to be one of the stops on my trip.

A field of sunflowers, early fall 2008.
Driving through the Berkshires of Massachusetts, I often take backroads as I travel in Western Massachusetts with my digital camera ready.
I love the Berkshires because of the variety of the landscape. You can find lakes, mountains and fields of flowers. Some of my better barn and cow pictures have come from the farms in the Berkshires as well.
This field of sunflowers was on a very rural road, that changed from gravel to dirt and back to a gravel road again. I jumped out of my car amidst the crickets and bees to take a few shots of this beautiful field of sunflowers.
As I’ve said, this site is eclectic - you might laugh, think, or run screaming the other way. I apologize if you’ve bookmarked me for a laugh of the day, but I promise that those too are coming. I’m feeling pensive, in love with my new daughter, and the fields of flowers reflect my mood.
